5 Components of Physical Fitness
- Cardiovascular Fitness - the ability of the heart, lungs and vascular (arteries and veins) system to deliver oxygen-rich blood to working muscles during physical activity.
- Muscular Strength - the amount of force a muscle or muscle group can exert against a heavy resistance.
- Muscular Endurance - the ability of a muscle or muscle group to repeat a movement many times or to hold a particular position for an extended period of time.
- Flexibility - the degree to which an individual muscle will lengthen.
- Body Composition - the amount of fat in the body compared to the amount of lean mass.
Fitnessgram Testing
In PE at Willard, we use Fitnessgram tests to assess our fitness and activity levels, report our results to our parents, and educate ourselves and our community on the importance of everyday activity and lifelong health and fitness. The 6 tests and the components of physical fitness are:
- PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) - Cardiovascular Fitness
- Push Ups - Muscular Strength and Endurance
- Trunk Lift - Muscular Strength
- Curl Ups - Muscular Strength and Endurance
- Sit and Reach - Flexibility
- Height and Weight - Body Composition
